Inner Feng Shui – 6 artworks together

This Series of 6 works, focuses on refining one’s personal energy through the chakras. Similar to the practice of Feng Shui, which engages principles and practices to optimize the elemental energy of earth, water, fire, metal and wood, applying it to one’s external environment, the chakra system aligns with similar elemental frequencies within the inner environment – the human subtle body.   When one purifies and refines both the inner and outer ‘worlds’, then the Qi/Chi/Prana flows naturally, and remains in balance, regardless of circumstances.

 Each vortex (chakra) within your human energy body can be healed, balanced and maintained through practices that tap into their associated element of Earth, Water, Fire, Air, Space and Light frequencies.  Each chakra is classically represented by a lotus flower, with a specific number of petals, color, and central symbolic shapes.  In my versions, I include gemstones and organic shapes/images to symbolize the chakra’s essence. This is much like Feng Shui, where color, form and placement are integral to proper flow of Chi/Qi in one’s home, office or garden. The focus here is to purify and optimize the energy of each chakra, optimizing internal balance and flow. 

The top square of each ‘chakra’ (10”x10”), is a symmetrical flower image, also known as a mandala (symmetrical meditation image); the bottom section of each piece, elaborates the elemental aspect (earth, water, fire…). Both parts combine to form a unified expression of dualities: within/without; ancient/contemporary; art/craft; above/below; traditional/unconventional; symmetrical/asymmetrical.  The entire series can be experienced as a sequential meditation; each is a stage of contemplation that aligns with the vertical axis of our energy body. As a whole, the 6 stages combine and unifies the natural energetic balance and flow within. 

Art can never perfectly emulate the power of elemental nature; however, my aspiration is to harness the symbolism and practices of spiritual traditions steeped within nature. Practices of Feng Shui and Chakra Meditations both utilize similar energy signatures with the aim to purify, heal and create harmony.
